Curing the Winter Blues

Long, dark winter nights can really put a downer on things if you’re a sun worshipper. Especially if a lot of your favorite hobbies and activities involve being outside. This can make winter a really tough time for some of us. But, don’t worry – here at Qmee we’ve come up with some ideas to keep the winter blues away in this cold season!

Sunlight

One thing a lot of us are missing in the winter is sun! The sun is not only useful because it keeps us warm, natural light also has lots of benefits to us! Natural sunlight gives us a vitamin D boost, improves our circadian rhythms, helps our sleep patterns and can even increase focus.

This reduction in sunlight can contribute to that feeling of tiredness that comes with the winter. However, there are a couple of things we can do to improve this. First off is vitamin D tablets. These tiny little capsules can be a real winter game-changer. But if you don’t feel like taking supplements, you can find a list of foods that are high in vitamin D here. A light therapy lamp can also be a great way to better your mood.

Exercise

We all know there are benefits to exercising. But these become even more important during the winter months. This is because all the things we seem to lose in winter – energy, sleep, strong immune system, good mood – are all improved by exercise! Plus, if you find a time when it’s still light and the weather isn’t too bad, getting outside and getting fresh air and sunlight, could also improve those negative winter feelings. Inside Activities

Even if you are a lover of the outdoors and start to feel cooped up by the winter weather, you could still find some enjoyment in indoor activities. There are plenty of things which can keep you entertained whilst at home: films, games, puzzles, baking or even arts & crafts! These activities are great for the whole family to get involved with, and could leave you feeling accomplished at the end of a day stuck at home. Another great indoor activity could be earning cash with Qmee surveys!

Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can’t be active whilst being at home either! There are plenty of workout routines, yoga exercises or even just some simple stretches that you could do whilst at home which could give you a much needed boost!

Make the Most of the Day

One thing that we know can be annoying is the short days. It can feel like there’s hardly enough time to get anything done whilst it’s still light, and we all know once it gets dark, all motivation to be productive nose dives, even though it’s only 4pm. Something that can be really helpful for this, is altering your schedule so that you make the most of the daylight hours. Something as simple as changing the time you wake up in the morning, can really give you some extra time whilst the sun is up!

Hopefully using these ideas you can cure your winter blues, and start to enjoy the season for everything that’s good about it – like hot drinks, good food (like a stew!), Christmas, and pretty frost!
