How to make the most of yard sale season

Yard Sale Season is upon us and to help you get the most success you need a plan of action! Here are our top tips to get you started…

Get there earlier – most people won’t be organised enough to turn up when the sale opens (usually at 9am) plan ahead and ready your car and whoever you’re travelling with the day before so you can get going first thing in the morning and let yourself loose on the bargains before anyone else can

…or later – or you can take the chance that if you go later in the day the prices will have come down as sellers are keen to get rid of all their junk (otherwise known as your next treasure!)

Take some change – if you’re aiming to hit the sales at certain times of the day, chances are sellers will have had their change cleared out already! Head there with pockets full of small change so you can haggle to a higher level!

Make a list – part of the fun is going for a browse to see what surprises you can find, but making a list of things you or your loved ones could need will help hone in your decision and hopefully help you come back with something to show for your browsing efforts!

Question yourself – if you don’t really need it, don’t let yourself get it – even if it is at a brilliant price, an item that is just too big/old/clashing with the rest of your decor will just end up at a yard sale of your own!

Then question everything else – is it stained or have a broken part? Why is it being sold? Is the seller willing to take less for it? Ask, haggle – you don’t know if you don’t ask!

Do you have any tips to add to our list?

great advice! I’ve given many yard sales and it is true. You keep lowering all the items as the day goes on….then you may end up giving the rest away
