Get your garden ready for summer on a budget

It’s easy to abandon your garden during the winter months, so by the time spring and summer arrive, it can look like an overgrown forest. But now that spring is here and the weather is warming up, it’s the perfect time to get out in the fresh air and tidy up, or even re-invent your garden. By the time summer comes your garden will look amazing!

Gardening is a fantastic hobby; it’s relaxing and can also make your home look wonderful from the outside. However, it can sometimes be a lot more expensive than you think. But… don’t let that put you off because there are plenty of cheap ways to improve your garden.

Take a look at the tips we’ve put together on how to get your garden ready for summer without breaking the bank…

Start with a plan…

Before you jump in and start buying things, sketch a plan of your garden and make sure you add in exact measurements. If you know how much space you have to work with, you’re less likely to buy too much and end up over-spending. You can also make a plan of the essential tools and materials you need so that your excitement to start transforming your garden doesn’t take over and mean you buy everything in the store!

Recycle old furniture…

Transforming your wooden garden furniture from old and washed out to wonderful and good as new is the perfect thing to do on a summer’s afternoon. It’s simple and means you won’t have to spend a fortune on buying new furniture. Sometimes all it takes is a splash of paint or even just some new accessories (like outdoor pillows) and a bit of creativity and your old furniture can look as good as new. You can find some great ideas online so get looking!

Buy used items…

The second-hand market or car boot sale are great places to find bargains, including bargains on gardening tools & furniture! They last a long time so it won’t be difficult to find quality products at really low prices. You can even find some really good items for very reasonable prices.

Paint your plant pots…

This is a quick and easy way to brighten up your garden! A lick of weather-resistant paint will update your tired terracotta pots in no time and this way, you won’t have to spend money on buying new ones. Most home improvement stores often have offers and discounts running so make sure you keep an eye out for those before buying your paint. Have a look at some of our garden deals on Qmee too!

Create a magical glow…

Getting your outdoor lighting right is just as important as your indoor lighting. Remember, your garden is an extension and part of your home so giving it the same look and feel is a great idea. Stylish, decorative lighting doesn’t have to cost a lot. Have a look online for some fairy lights or lanterns that don’t cost much.
